Such stuff as dreams are made on

I don’t know if it has ever occurred to you, but everything that anybody has ever achieved started out as a dream.

Whether it is a child persuading a parent to buy an ice cream, a business person building a successful business, or landing people on the moon, they all started with an imagined outcome – a dream.

The only difference between what you might think of as small everyday achievements and something extraordinary is the size of the dream. People who achieve bigger results start with bigger dreams – it really is that simple.

So, how do you dream big dreams and turn them into reality? After all, for many of us, as soon as we start to consider big goals, our attention rapidly shifts to all the reasons why we can’t do it, to all the things that would stop us. And if we don’t come up with those reasons for ourselves, we can usually rely on friends and family to provide them for us.

So, step one is to switch off the cynical part of you, and keep your ideas away from the naysayers around you until you have started to build your confidence; until you truly believe that your dream can be reality – and trust your imagination to know what it’s doing.

Next – Imagine that you have everything you need to achieve your goals. All the resources, all the money, all the ability, all the support and all the confidence. Imagine there is nothing that can stop you.

Now, in your mind’s eye, cast yourself forward 5 years and imagine you have taken those resources, used them well and produced the results you want.

What would your life look like? Where would you live? What would you be doing? Who would you be doing it with? What would you not be doing? Who would you not be doing it with?

What would you dream if you knew you absolutely could not fail?

Right now, don’t worry about how you will do it. Just dream about what you will do.

As a child at school my teachers were always telling me “Stop daydreaming!” I wonder how many of us had our creativity and confidence squeezed, squashed and diminished in that way?

Well, here’s the good news – Today is the day to Start Daydreaming!

Having said that, just dreaming will not give you the result. Once you have your dream, you must create a plan and go to to work on it.

Which I’ll pick up in future posts. In the meantime relax, dream and unleash your imagination.
